With the latest re-design by Two Trees Media, Brad's Reader blog about literature and writing has exploded with growth. The blog was moved to the open-source WordPress platform, which gave it flexibility in adding features that would enhance the blog's usability among readers. One of the most important features was a "Related Posts" plugin that listed a handful of related blog posts underneath each article. The posts were also organized to make them more searchable, including a list of the most popular posts - which is determined by the number of comments.
The results of this re-design are dramatic. In the month after switching to WordPress with the new design, the number of new visits increased by 15%. When compared to the same period in 2008, when Brad's Reader was hosted on Typepad with the old design, the number of new visitors spiked 137%, with visitors time on the site increasing by 55%.
